RE:BROWN – Remediation and brownfield investments

2024
ENVIRONTEC powered by ÖKOINDUSTRIA

02. Oct. 2024 (Wednesday)

The Hungarian Association of Environmental Enterprises (HAEE) organizes a biannual international professional conference to present the results and challenges in the field of remediation, sharing the latest research and development results and professional experiences. This year's conference will take place within the framework of the ENVIRONTEC powered by ÖKOINDUSTRIA international environmental industry trade fair on 2nd October 2024 in Budapest, at the HUNGEXPO Exhibition and Congress Centre.

One of the priority topics of the Hungarian EU Presidency in the second half of 2024 is the development of EU regulatory frameworks for soil contamination and measures aimed at preventing and eliminating pollution. In this context, Hungary is carrying out the EU's legislative task on monitoring soil and restoring soil health, which started in 2022. The proposed legislation regulates measures for the assessment, registration and restoration of contaminated soils. The development of the legislation is closely linked to the European Commission's New Soil Strategy adopted in 2021, which sets out medium- and long-term (2050) measures to comprehensively protect soils that are currently lacking in EU environmental legislation, linked to existing EU environmental strategies.

Beside this, there is an ongoing effort to renew the Hungarian remediation regulation, with emphasis not only on the remediation of contaminated sites, but also on the rehabilitation of brownfield and rust belt areas.

The planned event provides an opportunity to discuss domestic and EU remediation issues, current problems, goals-plans, legislative and implementation tasks, share good practices and techniques, and present the use of abandoned industrial/commercial/military/transport facility areas for new functions.

Information about the former Re:Brown confrences: https://kszgysz.hu/en/previous-conferences

Remediation and rehabilitation – Local “rust belts” and brownfield investments

Date: 29-30 November 2022 (Tuesday-Wednesday)
Event venue: H-1083 Budapest, Ludovika tér 2., National University of Public Service

Patron of the conference: Deputy State Secretary for the Environment at the Ministry of Technology and Industry.

Every two years, The Hungarian Association of Environmental Enterprises organizes a professional conference to present the results and challenges of field remediation, to share the latest research and development results, professional experience and to explore funding sources available in the next period.
This international conference will take place in this year on 29-30 November, in Budapest.

The participants of this two-day conference can learn about the global trends of remediation and the frameworks and developments of different national programmes.

We will present a guide on how to deal with environmental problems in the winding-up of failing businesses, commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, earlier this year.

We will present also the most up-to-date technological solutions on the field of pollutant measuring and sampling, remediation techniques and provide an opportunity to introduce the results of surveying the environmental and health-related risks of the abandoned, polluted industrial areas and the results of sustainable rehabilitation: https://kszgysz.hu/en/re-brown-2022

Beside the eminent representatives of science, professional organizations, experts and enterprises engaged in the exploration and construction works on contaminated sites, the companies, state actors, official and legislative specialists dealing with such sites will present modern methods of decontamination and subsequent rehabilitation of damaged, contaminated sites.

In addition to presenting international and national R&D results and good examples, we will also visit a current brownfield action area to see what needs to be done for its rehabilitation.
