The World Water Day has been celebrated every year the 22nd of March since 1993. This year the theme is ‘Water and Climate Change’, and the purpose is to show the close and interdependent link between water and climate change.
One of the big challenges of today is the outbreak of the corona virus (COVID-19). Therefore, the UN has cancelled or postponed many of the World Water Day face-to-face events, and promotes All Hands On World Water Day 2020.
As a member of EWA (European Water Association), which is one of the major professional associations in Europe that covers the whole water sector, wastewater as well as drinking water and water related waste, our Association also supports the campaign of All Hands on World Water Day 2020. We do promote all measures to retain the outbreak of the corona virus and advise to follow the guidelines of World Health Organization (WHO). As Johannes Lohaus, EWA Secretary General concludes „Insufficient hygiene without clear water is impossible”. Therefore, EWA strongly urges the EU Commission to upgrade the visibility of the significance of water in the Green Deal Policy.
In Hungary we are also aware of the water related challanges, thus ÖKOINDUSTRIA2020 Green Expo, which will be organised 4-6 November 2020 in Budapest, along all environmental themes will host exhibitors and side events focusing on river waste and future waste flows.
